Activate Inclusion was founded on April 3rd, 2021, with a mission to form an organization that addresses the lack of comprehensive training, services and supports in the Northwest for the Blind, Low-Vision and Deafblind. Our team possesses a diverse set of skills and knowledge to support individuals, families, and our local communities in obtaining more independence, engaging Self-Determination, and facilitating a more Accessible and Inclusive society.
To this end, Activate Inclusion is committed to:
- Providing early detection of needs for individuals with sensory loss through observation and interaction from our team as well as education forums and family workshops
- Engaging our network of professionals in diverse fields to address the complex situations that arise through the stages of life while experiencing sensory loss
- Advocating for greater access to supports and interventions for students early on in their education to ensure greater learning outcomes and smoother transitions from K-12 to education or employment paths
- Serving as a mentor to individuals and their families as the transition from the home to independence and Self-Determination begins
- Using Structured Discovery methods for rehabilitative services and training for more assertive and self-directed adaptations for each individual
- Recognizing the importance of health and wellness through the life continuum by providing Adapted Recreational and Sport opportunities to our clients
- Connecting people and their adapted passions and interests in the community to foster friendship and community
- Hosting opportunities for 1-on-1 mentoring or small group supports to help you find the right path and tools for success
- Offering targeted counseling sessions for adjusting to sensory loss in a judgement-free environment.
- Engaging the community and sharing our model of Accessibility and Inclusion to promote a more equitable experience in society for those with sensory loss
- Advocating for the preservation and expansion of rights and access to services for individuals and their families
- Participating in ongoing fundraising through community events and grant writing to facilitate and expand ongoing programs in our local community and statewide
- Building a diverse network of volunteers to operate our programs and ventures
